Our Hives
We are primarily based on the south shore in New Orleans, but we have bees in several places. Periodically our girls may move around. Sometimes we have to split hives and a queen's daughter may take over the hive while she moves to a new location (splits are a beekeeper's way of making an artificial swarm–so they won't try to swarm themselves). It's a way we can ensure the hives divide and conquer from healthy hives. Sometimes we need to combine smaller hives to ensure the hives continue. Sometimes we catch swarms or remove hives in the area and they join the program too. Here's a look at where our girls live:
